BRIDAL TRAIN
Australian stories
of romance, marriage and migration under fire. Where the love a man
outweighed the love of a country. Bridal Train is a significant and
little known-part of Australian history, it affected the lives of tens
of thousands, and parallels the consolidation of the political, military
and social relationship between Australia and USA we experience today.
It may even have influenced it. Of the original 12,000 brides, today
there are less than 50 war brides alive. Sadly their stories, and part
of the story of Australia, is dying with them. |

X-PATS: THE ALIEN CONNECTION
Xpats the Alien Connection ABC Accord project.
Completed in 2000 it has not only screened on the ABC in
Australia and Foxtel, it was also sold to BBC Horizons in
the UK.
X-Pats The Alien Connection
56 minute documentary
This intriguing story defines what addiction to an expat
lifestyle means, in terms of culture and sex, for many of
the Westerners who work and live in the Asian region. Expats
are in a unique position compared to most of us: First class
travel, maids to free them from of the "drudgery" of
domestic life, large rental allowances including other
numerous perks offered by their employers.
Power is the drug that these expats subscribe to. The
documentary, "X-Pats the Alien Connection" discovers what it
is about this drug that hooks them and keeps them at the
top, in Asia, and on the move.
During the course of this one hour documentary, we follow
the lives of several expats including, Lawrence 35, who is
single has been living in Singapore for eight years doing
deals and can never imagine heading home.
Steve 34 is married to Kate, 30, a career girl from Sydney.
Newly arrived, Steve will reveal another side to the life of
an expat from a married man's perspective. Long hours and
constant travel and doing business in another culture can be
stressful.
Judy is our single "career girl". She reveals that even
though she is living in the fast lane in one of the busiest
cities in the world, she often experiences loneliness as
expat men prefer to date the Asian girls. But her fortunes
are about to change.
David 22 and his girlfriend Belinda find their journey
fraught with problems. David's inability to come to terms
with living in a different culture means problems for his
relationship with Belinda.
Long term expats wives mother Cathy and daughter Pippa are
from the UK. Pippa has to move to America where life will be
very different. We also meet Ofelia, a singing karaoke
Filipino maid. She is an expat too, however, her
circumstances a very different to the other expats.
The expats' opulent lifestyle can be addictive, but it can
also mean ruin in a personal sense and during the course of
this documentary several of our expats lives unravel.
In "X-Pats The Alien Connection" we come to understand what
motivates people to leave their country of birth to live and
work in Asia.
The relationships they form with the local Asian community
and their position within that society will be revealed in
this informative and entertaining film. |
